Ysgol Dolbadarn is a busy school - have a look at our news ......

The Foundation Phase children visited the Galeri to see the show   “The Forest”. The choreographer held a dance workshop at the School.  The children enjoyed this enormously. The Foundation Phase children also undertook a field work trip at Coed Doctor searching for insects. It proved to be a very interesting morning.

The reception class, Y1 and Y2 visited Capel Coch vestry. Mr Pritchard answered questions about the Chapel and baptised our doll, Catrin Wyn.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Year 1 and 2 pupils studied the theme ‘In the garden’ and as part of the work, planted flowers and built a place to accommodate insects.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Weekly fitness sessions are held for Foundation Phase classes. The pupils have by now ran a distance of 2 km and have been awarded with a certificate.

Key Stage Two classes recently studied the Second World War period. They had opportunities to directly experience food rationing when cooking foods that  would have been eaten during that period.

Year 3 cooked cakes of all kinds, Year 4 prepared the biscuits and year 5 baked bread and made butter.
This made the pupils appreciate the impact food rationing had on the kind of foods that could be cooked during the War.
Some of the pupils were dressed in old fashion clothing to try and re-create a party to celebrate the end of the Second World War and they studied and performed some songs from the period and composed their own songs for the celebrations.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a photo of a girl from Year 3 who again recently achieved success in a climbing competition.  She has also been selected for the Wales youth climbing team. Congratulations.

------------------------------------------------------------------

At the end of March, year 4 had an opportunity to see a show about money saving entitled 'Spyd ar y Soffa' written by Mari Gwylim and Gwen Lasarus at Llanberis Library. The children enjoyed watching the show and learnt more about the importance of saving pocket money.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Year 5 and 6 pupils participated in a drama and awareness of anti-social behaviour workshop at Felinheli Memorial Hall.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Year 6 pupils have created computerised presentations about an area of the Slate Museum,  Llanberis. The work forms part of the museum’s fourtieth birthday celebrations.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Children from ysgol Dolbadarn collaborated with pupils from  Ysgol Brynrefail on the green project.   Pupils from Brynrefail have been busy planning with year 5 pupils on how to make improvements to our school garden.  Then, everybody worked together to tidy up and plant flowers around the school.

Y5 Trip to Rhyd Ddu
On Thursday, April 26th, year 5 went on a trip to  Rhyd Ddu.  We had an excellent time on the trip.  The day began with everybody entering the mini bus. Everybody was very excited on arrival.  We went to see our rooms and kept our bags and sleeping bags.

We played team building games to begin with and everybody had fun trying to solve the problems. Unfortunately, the weather was very poor. Everybody was wet through by dinner time.
In the afternoon, we went for a walk in the forest and past the river.   After returning to the Centre following the journey, everybody was very tired and ready for a bellyfull of food. We has spaggetti bolognaise and a chocolate cake for pudding.  It was very tasty. Then it was almost bed-time.  We went upstairs to the rooms, talked for a bit and then slept soundly!
I got up at 7 a.m. We had to prepare for the trip through preparing sandwiches and drinks. We then began to walk from  Rhyd Ddu, over Bwlch Maelgwn  to Llanberis.  When we saw the school at the end of the trip, we were all overjoyed.  I had a good time but was exhausted by when evening came.

Saying goodbye to Mr Wynne

Mr Wynne

Mr Wynne on his last day at Ysgol Dolbadarn
July 15 was a sad day for the school. On that day, Mr Rolant Wynne left us after 12 years for another post – namely field officer for UCAC.

We extend our best wishes to him in his new post and for the future.

During our end of term service, he was presented with work done by Ann Catrin. It was a carving of the quarry and castle made out of metal. Each class took it in turns to say farewell and there were tears in some eyes! All the best Mr Wynne!
